about

L'objet tightens around Julien Harpagès and Arnaud Boulogne for this new album, "Slalom". "Ascoltami" sums up well the melodic effort of the band, drifting and burning out from its post-rock comfort zone.
The guitars have been superseded by synths, mainly a trusty MS-10, a cute Casio that keeps getting lost in the delay, and a stout polyphonic that supports all harmonic ambitions. They just pop out the Jazzmaster on the B-side, for "Antigua", a 2019 track cover, pared down for this duo formation.
Square as "Wombat" poop (yes, it's a title), the duo that delivers since 2006 takes on its omnivorous diet : Beak> salad, kraut main course, minimal wave shots, and a to-go coffee with a Panda Bear on the side.
The drums sound like drums, wide and dry, thanks to mixer Théophane Bertuit. You need that to make way for the polyrhythmic getaways of some tracks ("Estoril", conundrum of mixed rhytmical signatures, paired with its cousin Slalom, closing the album smoothly).
No shoegazing, more a hot fingers affair : you can trust this on stage.

Halory Goerger
